1/15)Diveristy Symposium 2024

We are pleased to announce that we will be holding the above symposium as part of our awareness-raising activities to promote diversity at our university.

The guest speaker, Gohei Nishikawa, had a brilliant career as a pianist based in New York, but in 2001, he was diagnosed with an incurable muscle contraction disease (dystonia),which caused him to lose all function in both hands. However, after intensive rehabilitation, he regained the function of his right hand and two fingers on his left hand, and returned as a professional pianist with a stronger tone than before.

We believe that the "differences" that each person has can become a "strength" that complements an organization in many ways, that one's own characteristics or experiences that may seem negative at first glance can also be their "strengths," and that this opportunity can cultivate a mindset of accepting diversity or can make each person to live a rich life and improve their well-being.

*Symposium is going to be in Japanese. But Mr. Nishikawa is an excellent English speaker, so questions could be asked in English during the Q&A session.
